We are pleased to announce that Mr. George Beratis has been hired as our new band director. Mr. Mac will now teach orchestra classes and act as assistant band director and senior teacher; Mr. Haines will be teaching choir and music theory courses.
Mr. Beratis has been an educator for more than 11 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in jazz saxophone from Western Connecticut State University, a master’s degree in music education from the University of Bridgeport, and a sixth year master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from the University of Bridgeport. His teaching experience includes Bridgeport, Stratford, and, most recently, he spent the past nine years as the band director at his alma mater, Stamford High School. During his time at Stamford High, Mr. Beratis grew the band program from 19 students during his first year to over 70 students. They have traveled and performed at Disney World, The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., just to name a few. In the 2018-2019 school year he was appointed content leader for music for the Stamford Public Schools, where he was responsible for planning professional development for all Stamford music teachers. He is hard working, committed and expects nothing but the best from his students. Mr. Beratis is an active musician in the local and tri-state music scene. He can be seen performing with “The Saxtet,” as a sideman in jazz quartets/quintets, local community theaters and with a plethora of cover bands. Mr. Beratis is excited to continue his music career at Ridgefield High School and is eager to become a member of the Ridgefield community.
